EDO CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS MARCH AGAINST INCREMENT IN PRICE OF FUEL
The leadership and Members of EDOCSO ably led by the interim TEC chairman, the person of leftist Austine Enabulele and other angry citizens in their large number moved the procession from the start point which is ring road Benin city, through Akpakpava marches through other major roads in the city Centre, sensitizing citizens on the need to join the movement to demand for the reduction of fuel pump price, which has led to the increase in transportation and drastic increase of other commercial activities in the country
It has become imperative that we draw the attention of the leadership of Edo state and other stakeholders and by extension the federal government to their responsibility as it’s in SECTION 14 OF THE NIGERIA CONSTITUTION 1999 AS AMENDED since they have failed in this section very just now, we want to let them know that the pains and anguish the abrupt removal of fuel subsidy had caused to Nigerians.
The removal of fuel subsidy is a welcome development, however, the timing and lack of provisions in cushioning its effect on Nigerians has raised serious concerns. These concerns are not limited to the inability for families to feed and businesses are folding up daily as they can no longer run their operations.
If this is not attended to as a matter of national emergency, we fear that, the rate of crime and poverty will be on the increase and same will pose more serious security threat for the country. In the midst of all these, the national assembly through the presidency have concluded plans to share 70 billion naira amongst themselves while majority of Nigerians are currently unable to feed daily.
It is our humble plea that both state and the federal governments should have a joint meeting to quickly workout a safety net for citizens so as not to plunge the country into an irredeemable situation.
We can no longer breathe as citizens, the economy is chocking us almost to death.
Swift action is required
