The day two(2) of scheduled protest on the continuous senseless rise in the pump price of petroleum in Edo state resumed at the King square, ring road yesterday 31st January 2023 at 7 am as publicized, leftist and other angry citizens were well mobilized and march the city streets of Benin, chanting angry solidarity songs in the precession which was led to the police state headquarters to express it’s concerns and fears on the unimaginable security consequences if the fuel hike protest is allowed to persist longer as a result of frustrations caused on Nigerian citizens by its elected leaders at both national and state levels. Mr James Chu, the OC operations and highest ranking officer at the time, received us and responded in the most professional and calm manner with the assurance of a very peaceful resolution of our grievances by the CP who was said to be out chairing a security meeting away from the command.
The meeting reached the following resolutions:
1. To immediately set up an all-inclusive petroleum monitoring committee that will face the subject matter headlong.
2. To as a matter of emergency declare war on petrol black marketing hence the danger it poses to society.
3. To create a public portal which shall report the daily product loading, quantity and point of delivery for citizens’ monitoring and feedback
The Hon. Commissioner for oil and gas, Edo state briefed the house of the efforts of Mr Governor to ensure that petrol in large quantity gets to the state and is well distributed too, he went on to inform that about 780,000 litres of petrol have arrived in the state with more expected as soon as possible to quickly eradicate the sufferings and pains of citizens, the meeting ended in great hopes and renewed confidence.
Thereafter, leadership returned to the Edo state police command on the rescheduled meeting with the Commissioner
In the meeting with CP. Dankwara, more progressive Revelations were given that grossly calmed the tensed nerves and returned laughter to the faces of all Leftists present.
The leadership of Edo Civil Society Organisations EDOCSO, in this progress made so far, suspends the proposed indefinite fuel hike protest and all other arrangements and calls for calm as we observe the situation gradually return to normalcy through the contributory efforts of all and sundry.
Our special thanks to all Nigerians that trusted and answered our call for action,
A LUTA CONTINUA!!!
